Urban Farming
Urban farming is the practice of cultivating and distributing food around a town or city, and the practice has received significant attention and popularity recently as a response to developing urban life. Urban farming can range from personal to local community gardens and is mostly practiced indoors to eliminate climate barriers. While urban farming affords a community environmental and health benefits, there are trade-offs associated with the practice. Space is very valuable in cities and is accordingly expensive and sometimes difficult to secure. Urban farming is also time-intensive, requiring constant upkeep and oversight. Also, food quality may be affected in an urban environment. Studies show that the nutritional quality of produce may suffer when exposed to insect pests or air pollution pertinent to urban areas, the former being preventable if the upkeep is consistent.
