Houston FFVP Toolkit – Grade 3-5

3rd-5th grade students will engage in 8–10-minute learning activities designed for students to explore food education concepts in conjunction with FFVP snack times. These learning activities follow the four-part sequence of Think, Talk, Taste, Teach. Focus Areas: Additional Resources:

Elementary students dive deeper into understanding the complex systems that bring food to their cafeteria and develop critical thinking about nutrition and food choices. Focus Areas: Exploring the journey from farm to cafeteria Understanding nutrition and balanced meals Investigating school food policies and programs Developing advocacy skills for positive change

Snacktime Explorers: Grade 2-3

Students become food detectives, investigating where foods come from and how they grow while developing more sophisticated vocabulary and observation skills. Key Learning Goals: Understanding food origins and seasons Expanding descriptive vocabulary Making connections between foods and health Practicing respectful food conversations
